Berg Hospitality Group's Senior Vice President of Purchasing Tommy Elbashary fell in love with cooking at an early age, surrounded by the rich aromas in his mother's kitchen in Cairo, Egypt. His childhood dreams quickly became a reality when he arrived in the U.S., where he began his culinary career as a butcher's assistant behind the counter of New York's iconic Gallagher's Steakhouse. During his time in New York, Chef Elbashary quickly honed his skills working at some of the city's finest eateries including Ben Benson's, King of the Sea, The Post House and Cite.
Chef Elbashary then had a 29 year tenure with Smith & Wollensky, playing a vital role in the successful expansion of the New York-based steakhouse, opening locations in key markets including Las Vegas, Chicago, Washington D.C., Philadelphia and Dallas, before finally choosing to make Houston home with his wife Samar and their two children. Prior to joining Berg Hospitality Group, Chef Elbashary first partnered with Benjamin Berg to open his first restaurant, B&B Butchers & Restaurant, in May 2015, and was instrumental in the restaurant's success and expansion to Fort Worth in January 2018.
He has earned numerous accolades throughout his career including being honored by the French Embassy in Washington D.C. His global reputation for creating consistently delicious dishes, his innovative approach to food, and his dedication to using only the highest quality ingredients continue to delight a loyal clientele.
